Mothering Myths: An ABC of Art, Birth and Care, 2025
Mothering Myths unravels the clichés, stigmas and myths surrounding motherhood, through the lens of art, and a transhistorical and intersectional perspective, while being very playful and open to many interpretations. It breaks through the perspective of the individual mother figure and makes space for collectivity, different forms of ‘mothering’ and political questions surrounding self-determination. Mothering Myths presents the emancipatory nature of the artist-mother, the voluntarily childless woman, the non-female mother and the ‘raven mother’, through concepts such as kinship, revolutionary parenting, womb consciousness and reproductive justice.

Motherhood, 2023
Depictions of motherhood are ever present in Western art, yet rarely questioned or challenged. We may shy away from a subject that could be seen as sentimental or overly associated with idealistic constructs of femininity, nurture and care. Whether we are mothers ourselves, or whether we bring or nurture life in a wider sense, we all have some understanding of motherhood. Giving birth to their creations, artists have represented this vital and complex subject in a variety of ways, providing insight into what motherhood might mean, its joys and challenges, and seeking to articulate its unspoken aspects. Featuring fifty artworks in a variety of media, this book is a celebration of motherhood in all its complexity.

A Brush with the Real: Figurative Painting Today, 2013
Why painting today? In the digital age, with its powers of instant recall and infinite reproduction, why are we witnessing an unprecedented revival of figurative painting? A Brush with the Real presents a survey of key contemporary artists who have each embraced painting and are working within a realist tradition. Through individual interviews the book peers into the life and work of each of these artists, discussing their methods, motives and sources, from art history to the internet and the language of film. The book celebrates the work of 51 artists who are each taking the medium in a new direction: from those who work with appropriation and found images, to those trying to get as close as possible to contemporary reality and first-hand experience, to artists who are simply using painting as a door to parallel or imaginary worlds.
