Overview
The paintings in Night Scenes explore the narrative possibilities for a set of characters after dark. A range of locations including an LA cityscape, a house in London and the snowy Czech mountains form the backdrop for a range of activities from private parties to scenes of domesticity, night swims to unexplained liaisons. The lack of a dominant overall light source in these nocturnal settings allows for a play in painting between the real and illusory, inside and outside, as figures emerge and retreat into darkness or appear fleetingly in a reflected surface.
